Certain Women tells the stories of women in a small Montana town. It stars Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, and Lily Gladstone.
Certain Women was written and directed by Kelly Reichardt, based on short stories by Maile Meloy. Judging from the reviews after Sundance, the film appears to be quiet and subtle. I’m going out on a limb here and saying that a subtle film about women’s lives isn’t going to set the multiplex on fire. All the more reason to go support and watch it, in my opinion. It will be in theaters October 14.
The trailer gives us a brief glimpse into each woman. Laura Dern plays a lawyer. Michelle Williams is a wife and mother trying to build a new home. Kristen Stewart plays a young lawyer who gets involved with a ranch hand played by Lily Gladstone.
The best part of the trailer is when Dern says, “It’d be so lovely to think that if I were a man, people would listen and say okay. It’d be so restful.”
Others in the film include James Le Gros, Jared Harris, and Rene Auberjonois.
The trailer doesn’t really give any indication of what the film is aboutand I haven’t the source material so I have no frame of reference. I has a good cast, though.
The cast is what got my attention. Hopeful about it.
Sounds like this might be a winner. Like the theme. Maybe it won’t break the box office, but I support movies like this!
