In these troubled times, people are searching for uplifting TV. They want something inspiring about good people doing good things. Acorn TV is the place to find a series like that. Here are 12 examples that are streaming on that platform right now.

My Life is Murder

I’ve reviewed 4 seasons of this charmer lead by Lucy Lawless as a retired police detective who still solves crimes as a consultant for the police. It began in Australia and moved to New Zealand where every location is a loving look at New Zealand’s best.

Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries

Geraldine Hakewill in Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries

Geraldine Hakewill stars as a modern day Ms. Fisher, a spin off from the earlier series with Essie Davis. Peregrine Fisher is a modern woman in every way and outsmarts the police and criminals at every turn. There are two seasons of this series reviewed here.

Darby and Joan

Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi in Darby and Joan

Bryan Brown and Greta Scacchi star as strangers who team up for an Australian road trip adventure. They get to know each other as they travel. There are two seasons, but I’ve only reviewed one so far.

Maternal

Parminder Nagra, Lara Pulver, and Lisa McGrillis in Maternal

Parminder Nagra, Lara Pulver, and Lisa McGrillis play doctors and friends in Maternal. This series was not renewed after the first season but it’s an excellent drama about friendship and medicine.

Candice Renoir

Cécile Bois in Candice Renoir

This one can keep you occupied for a long time because there are many, many seasons. I only reviewed the first one. It’s about an unconventional woman and police officer (Cécile Bois) who notices the clues everyone else misses.

Mrs. Sidhu Investigates

Meera Syal in Mrs. Sidhu Investigates

With only one season to review, I still loved this one. Meera Syal plays a charming older woman who stumbles on murders by accident as she runs her catering business.

The Good Karma Hospital

Amanda Redman in The Good Karma Hospital

With a big cast lead by Amanda Redman, this series is the epitome of good people doing good things. It’s set in India and full of color and flavor. I’ve reviewed 4 seasons of this one here.

Harry Wild

Jane Seymour in Harry Wild

With Jane Seymour as Harry Wild, a former college professor turned amateur sleuth, this series is fun and racy. I’ve reviewed three seasons of it here.

Recipes for Love and Murder

Maria Doyle Kennedy in Recipes for Love and Murder

Maria Doyle Kennedy stars in this one, set in South Africa. Her cooking column in the local newspaper is turned into an advice column, which leads her to investigate crimes based on requests for advice. I reviewed the first season. The second season will release soon.

Signora Volpe

Emilia Fox in Signora Volpe

Emilia Fox stars as a British spy who moves to Italy and buys a run down villa. She gets involved with helping the local police solve mysteries.

Under the Vines

Rebecca Gibney in Under the Vines

Rebecca Gibney stars in this series about a couple of greenhorn wine makers who inherit a vineyard in New Zealand. They get into all sorts of mishaps trying to make wine.

Acorn TV has many other kinds of movies and TV series, but it is particularly good at showcasing the charming, cozy, uplifting TV you may feel like watching right now. It’s one of the less expensive streamers, too. I have not received anything from Acorn TV for promoting their platform, I just like their stuff!

Thank you for this list. I stay away from extremes of violence, crime, sex, and cruelty, and it’s sometimes hard to find something to watch. I’ll work on this list and try to ignore the chaos out there in real life.
