Big Mood is back for a second season. The throughline in season 2 is about Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) and Eddie (Lydia West) settling their differences and resuming their friendship. It happens in that special bonkers way everything in Big Mood happens.
In season 1 of Big Mood, we met Maggie and Eddie. Maggie was in a bipolar depression and ended up with lithium poisoning because her doctor was an idiot. Eddie was depressed because her dad died and she couldn’t help Maggie when she needed it. Plus Maggie let her down in a big way.

In between seasons one and two, Eddie left the UK and went to California. There she met Whitney (Hannah Onslow), a woman who called herself a light worker. She claimed to heal people as an influencer. She had Eddie wrapped around her little finger. When Eddie showed up in the UK for a friend’s wedding, she had Whitney with her.
Maggie was busy getting back on the right medication between the seasons. She was stable, taking care of herself, and trying to write something new. She missed Eddie terribly and was thrilled by the possibility of reconciling with her when Eddie arrived back in the UK.
Eddie, meanwhile, had plans to spend a lot of money to buy a farm in Devon where she and Whitney would become wellness gurus. At Whitney’s urging, she intended to cut Maggie and her chaos out of her life.

That wasn’t what happened, but it took a lot of goofball comedy and an intervention by Maggie and all Eddie’s old friends from before to get there. Many cast members from season one were still around, and we learned more about Maggie’s mother (Niamh Cusack) and Maggie’s estranged father (Robert Lindsay).
This series is a well done examination of friendship, mental illness, and the power of social media. There’s also a small subplot around men abusing women. It’s worth watching both seasons if you missed seeing the first one.
Big Mood was created by Camilla Whitehill and directed by Rebecca Asher. It’s a Tubi original. It’s on Channel 4 in the UK. Here’s the trailer.
