It’s time for one of those posts where I dump a whole lotta short thoughts outta my brain. This one includes Tell It to the Bees, Peppermint, and the Marvel series Runaways.
Tell It to the Bees
Tell It to the Bees, with Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger was a big disappointment. Although nobody died, a definite plus in a lesbian romance, the ending was a total bust. I thought the young storyteller Charlie (Gregor Selkirk) being able to command the bees to attack someone didn’t belong in a story like this, which wasn’t intended to be magical. I was looking forward to seeing this one, but was unhappy with the last 1/3 of it.
Jennifer Garner stars in Peppermint, a revenge movie. I don’t really get revenge movies, the entire genre does nothing for me. The desire to murder someone who has wronged you has never resonated with me.
However, we live in a world with a broken justice system. So revenge happens.
As revenge movies go, this is a good one. Jennifer Garner is a top notch fighter, shooter, schemer, and exacter of punishment. It’s action packed with fight scenes and people getting their brains blown out. The good guy wins in the end. Plus, obviously, it stars Jennifer Garner.
Runaways, season 3
I had trouble getting started with Runaways, season 3. The opening episodes were hard to follow. Several characters were inhabited by aliens and the situation with the runaway teens was fractured. I kept watching and finally got into the groove, but I never felt season 3 was as good as the first two.
I enjoyed the character Xavin (Clarissa Thibeaux), an alien who thought she was destined to marry Carolina (Virginia Gardner). Except Carolina was already committed to Nico (Lyrica Okano). Xavin’s alien restraint and growing understanding of human behavior were very well done.
This is the final season, at least where it is now on Hulu. Marvel is moving everything around, so it might pop up elsewhere later.
What about you? Have any thoughts on these movies and TV series?
