Champagne Problems is one in a new crop of holiday romcoms for 2025. There are already plenty of holiday romcoms floating around, but this one is set in France with some beautiful shots of Paris and the French countryside to give it a boost over some of the others.
Champagne Problems stars Minka Kelly as Sydney Price, an ambitious young finance exec who gets sent to France to buy a champagne business. She thinks she’s going to save the venerable company, but her boss intends to sell it for parts and make a big profit.
The night before her pitch to the owner, Sydney meets Henri (Tom Wozniczka) in a bookstore. He shows her all the sights, sounds, and foods of Paris at Christmas. Surprise! They fall in love. Bet you didn’t see that one coming.

When Sydney arrives to make her pitch the room is full of others doing the same thing for the winery owner Hugo Cassell (Thibault de Montalembert). The others in the room are more comic relief than serious about champagne. They include Roberto (Sean Amsing), a playboy with loads of money and a love of alcohol, an uptight caricature of a German named Otto (Flula Borg), and Brigitte (Astrid Whettnall), who wants to export champagne to Japan. These folks brought a few laughs with them.
In walks Henri, the dude Sydney spent the night with. He’s the son of the owner. Big oops.
Hugo puts his assorted suitors for the winery through some testing situations. Sydney and Henri still think they are in love (well, until the big misunderstanding). There are carriage rides in the snow and lots of charming and romantic events particular to France. It’s trope-filled and contrived, but pleasant and enjoyable. Minka Kelly is lovely, as you would expect.
If you are a fan of holiday romcoms, this one is a decent addition to the genre and can be found on Netflix. There’s some French language, but it’s captioned and often translated verbally, too.
