Dinosaur, so named because the main character is a paleontologist working with dinosaurs, is a comedy TV series from Scotland. (Hint, close captions will be helpful.) It’s about what happens when two sisters and their relationship are facing changes.
Dinosaur is already approved for a second season. This review is of season 1.
Nina (Ashley Storrie), the paleontologist, is autistic. Nina’s way of dealing with life and change is the heart of the series. The actor, Ashley Storrie, is herself autistic and co-created the series with Matilda Curtis. It’s a charming, funny, and authentic look at one autistic woman’s life.

Nina’s sister Evie (Kat Ronney) announces she’s going to marry Ranesh (Danny Ashok), a man she has only known for six weeks. This throws Nina for quite a loop. She worries about every detail of her sister’s relationship with this unknown, new man. The possible changes it will mean in her life are upsetting as well.
Nina has to meet new people, wear itchy clothes to be a maid of honor, plan a fun hen party and do all sorts of difficult things while trying to cope with her new status with her sister.
Nina flirts awkwardly with Lee (Lorn Macdonald), a fellow selling coffee in a van parked outside her work. He gets her, which is not all that common, and she likes him. Her co-worker Declan (Jim Kitson) might be autistic, too, and he’s an ally for her. These two get excited over fossilized poop, so they get each other too. Her brother Ade (Greg Hemphill) has his own drama going on but he loves her and listens to her.
But none of those fellows are her sister and her sister is her person.
Every character, not just Nina, get a development arc in this comedy series. We get to know Evie, Ranesh, Ade, and more in what might be considered normal situations but they turn comedic in this series.
There are six episodes in season 1, and by the last one Evie and Ranesh are newly married. I look forward to exploring what happens next with this group in season 2. The series is streaming on Hulu. The trailer gives you a hint as to what you’ll see.
