Enola Holmes 3 carries on its traditions with intrepid detective Enola Holmes and her brother Sherlock heading to Malta for a wedding. Enola’s wedding!

Enola Holmes 3 stars Millie Bobby Brown as Enola. The film maintains all the quirky originality I described in my reviews of Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2. Most of the cast were seen in the first two films as well.

Enola and Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge) were all set to marry in Malta. Tewkesbury was waiting at the altar. Enola was late but on the way, when Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) stopped her and told her that her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) had been kidnapped and was nowhere to be found.

That put the brakes on the wedding as Enola swung into action looking for clues about where Sherlock might be and who might have him. Before long Lady Tewkesbury (Hattie Morahan), Enola’s future mother-in-law, disappeared as well.

The British military, the Malta police, and Maltese freedom fighters all became involved in the search. There were hotel fires, guns waved about, fights testing Enola’s martial arts skills, and plenty of clues. Some clues went back to old wars and stolen treasure.

Eventually Enola’s mother, Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter), showed up. She was fresh off her new career blowing up things in the fight for justice. A wanted woman back in England.

Moriarty (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) turned up too. As usual Moriarty was up to no good.

Everything about the Enola Holmes movies has been fresh and clever. The third installment is no exception. In spite of the dangerous story line, the film feels charming and humorous. Filming in Malta added a great deal to the look and feel of the story with beautiful new scenery and mysterious new places to see.

Once again Enola is confirmed to be just as brilliant a detective as Sherlock. The feminism is strong in the film, as it was in the first two. My favorite line in the film was about Enola being all grown up. Millie Bobby Brown got to say, “I just keep getting older day by day,” a barb that seem aimed at fans who somehow want her to remain the young girl they saw in Stranger Things.

This enjoyable adventure is streaming on Netflix.
