Restless is a story about horrible loud neighbors and the effect they have on a quiet, peace loving woman next door. It’s a British production.

Restless begins by showing Nicky (Lyndsey Marshal) and her well-ordered and quiet life. She works in a care home. At night she cooks, watches TV with her cat, listens to classical music, and sleeps well.

Recently her parents died. New people are going to move into their place, which is attached to Nicky’s place by thin walls and air vents.

Deano (Aston McAuley) is the new neighbor. He plays loud music all night every night. He has loud friends. They yell at each other because the music is so loud.

How loud is it? Loud enough to make the water in Nicky’s glass next door jump and wave.

The first night he is there, Nicky thinks maybe it’s a one off. But it happens every night. She tries sleeping in her car. Her friend Kevin (Barry Ward) gives her a ticket for a parking violation. She tries noise canceling earphones with soothing music. She tries talking to the neighbor and asking him to turn it down. He curses her and tells her to get lost. She calls the police, who do nothing. She spends a night at Kevin’s house.

Nothing helps. She is going slowly mental from lack of sleep. She gets desperate and creative. That’s when the story really gets interesting, because she finds some effective ways to deal with Deano.

Nicky is a good person. She helps people. She does the right thing always. She wouldn’t hurt anyone or destroy anyone’s property. But . . . desperate times call for desperate measures.

I found the ending very satisfying. Here’s to Nicky getting a good night’s sleep.
