Hanna finishes up its exciting and suspense-filled run with a 6 episode third season on Prime Video. This series has been a top-notch, edge-of-your-seat thriller from start to finish. The ending was not so much happy as inevitable.
In season 3 of Hanna, the tables have turned. Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles) is working secretly against the organization that bred and trained her. The small and secretive group engaged in this effort to destroy the organization include CIA operative turned rogue Marissa (Mireille Enos), the former head of the girls training John (Dermot Mulroney), and the social media trainer Terri (Cherrelle Skeete).
The girls are at the end of their training and are ready to be deployed all over the world. We learn they will be sent to assassinate young people under 30 who are activists, protestors, organizers, resisters, and independent thinkers.
Hanna is sent to Paris to kill Abbas Naziri (Adam Bessa). He talks about freedom from social and governmental group think. It clicks with her. Instead of killing him, she falls in love with him.
Hanna is different. Because of her time in the forest with Erik (Joel Kinnaman), she’s not as brainwashed as the other girls. She understands what Abbas is talking about.
In working to save Abbas and defeat the organization, she and Marissa discover a huge server farm collecting data about millions of young people. The purpose is to find the resisters like Abbas and kill them all.
This was the most chilling part of season 3 to me. It’s feasible and sounds like something certain powerful people in the world would actually do to hold on to the status quo and maintain their power and wealth.
Marissa and Hanna develop an almost mother/daughter dynamic in season 3. We learn much more about Marissa and her background. In an interview at Screen Rant, Mireille Enos talks about this mother/daughter development between them.
Marissa’s story turns out to be related to a new character in season 3, Gordon Evans (Ray Liotta). He’s the overall head of the organization training the girls as assassins.
Another new character in season 3 is Brianna Stapleton (Chloe Pirrie). Chloe Pirrie is terrific in this role. She’s the head of a unit of soldiers who support the efforts of the girl assassins. She gives kill orders and chases all over Europe to find the small group trying to destroy the organization.
This series has been a top-notch, edge-of-your-seat thriller from start to finish.
Gordon Evans and Brianna Stapleton use soldiers but also girls they’ve trained like Sandy (Áine Rose Daly) to hunt down the rebels. As you would expect with this series, it leads to an exciting and dangerous climax. There’s action a-plenty shot in some gorgeous locations, especially in the mountains.
Esme Creed-Miles does an excellent job with Hanna’s growth and trajectory over the 3 seasons. By the end she’s grown into a sense of who she is and maybe learned a bit of wisdom in the process.
If you are a fan of high-speed action dramas and haven’t yet seen this series, I recommend you start from the beginning and let it keep you biting your nails until the end.
