The coolest thing about services like Netflix is that you can see something old for the first time. Case in point: Seven Pounds. I spotted this 10 year old gem with Will Smith and Rosario Dawson among the new arrivals on Netflix and watched it immediately.
I figured you couldn’t go wrong with a combination like Will Smith and Rosario Dawson. I was right. They have great onscreen chemistry.
Here’s the premise. Ben (Smith) suffers from overwhelming guilt and remorse about something stupid he did. He resolves to help seven strangers as atonement. The way he goes about helping them is unique and very permanent.
One of the people he helps is Emily (Dawson). These two unexpectedly fall in love while Ben is helping her, a beautiful complication in his complicated plan.
Some others Ben helps are played by Woody Harrelson, Michael Ealy, and Elpidia Carrillo. Other significant characters are played by Barry Pepper, Joe Nunez, and Robinne Lee.
I don’t want to take you any further into the story because it would spoil too much. Remarkably, the trailer also manages not to contain too many spoilers either.
