Rachel McAdams in Send Help

Send Help, surviving is a horror show

Send Help is a slow building horror story about female rage. It stars Rachel McAdams as Linda Liddle, who begins the film as a corporate mouse who does the work men take credit for. Along with her is the new company CEO, a misogynist played by Dylan O’Brien.

Send Help begins with Linda producing the numbers in planning and strategy that keep the company afloat. The men she works with can’t stand her. They steal her work and claim it as their own. The new boss Bradley (Dylan O’Brien) wants to fire her and tells her it’s because her lunch smells toxic.

At home Linda reads survival books and chats with her bird. Her favorite TV show is Survivor.

Bradley plans to really for sure fire her after a trip to Bangkok. They can’t close the deal there without her brains.

But the plane crashes. The only survivors are Linda and Bradley. They wash ashore on a remote island. He’s injured and helpless. She’s in her element. She quickly lets him know she is the alpha on the island and he is under her command.

She makes fire, collects fresh water, finds food, catches fish. She’s a survival genius. Bradley is a putz.

When he recovers, she teaches him a few things and uses him for manual labor. If he gets out of line or tries to escape she punishes him. She’s very creative with her punishment.

There are jump scares and gory scenes. There was humor. There were surprises and twists.

The two actors managed their role reversals really well. Linda went from downtrodden and underappreciated to mad queen. Rachel McAdams was fantastic at it. Bradley went from entitled a**hole to pitiful subjugation. Dylan O’Brien was fantastic at it. Thematically the film was about rage against the patriarchy. That’s a theme I can identify with.

Linda’s rage wasn’t pure and wasn’t pretty. But it was effective. FYI, it might not be a good idea to make her mad at you.

This gem of a horror flick is currently streaming on Hulu/Disney+. Let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

I’ll watch it when I get the chance. This doesn’t sound like horror to me. It sounds like retribution and well deserved justice. Lots of men have been in the same position she was in at work with no tools to defend with never mind role reversal.

I can think of hundreds of MAGA people who deserve Dylan O’Brien’s fate and I’d love to be the one to serve it to them, hot or cold.
