The Best You Can with real life couple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick is a lighthearted comedy with some serious undertones. It’s about a life full of mistakes and successes, loss and love.

The Best You Can features Stan (Kevin Bacon), a charming security guard. He’s long divorced and has a rocky relationship with his grown daughter Sammi (Brittany O’Grady). Sammi is a talented singer and Stan is always pushing her to perform live.

Cynthia (Kyra Sedgwick) is a successful urologist. She’s married to a much older Warren (Judd Hirsch). Warren is in his 80s now and is developing dementia. Warren was a lawyer during the Nixon administration Watergate scandal and keeps trying to sell a book about it.

One night Cynthia and Warren’s house is broken into and Stan shows up to chase the guy away and check out the house. When Stan asks to use the bathroom because he has to pee every two seconds with a prostate problem, Cynthia gives him her card and tells him to call her.

They quickly develop great chemistry and become doctor and patient but also friends who text all the time and love talking to each other.

Cynthia hires Pamila (Meera Rohit Kumbhani) to look after Warren and to pretend to help him write a book about Watergate. His condition continues to get worse.

Warren’s daughter Rosemary (Heather Burns) is only a few years younger than Cynthia. She wants to put her dad in a care home near where she lives.

That’s the basis of the story and the main cast. The film is funny, full of love, music, and tender moments of love and realization. It’s a feel good movie about how life sometimes turns out right. There are some beautiful bittersweet moments at the end. If you want something enjoyable and light, this is a good choice.

I watch Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick on Instagram singing to their goats and jamming with their kids. The plot of this movie is more fun than that.
