(Un)lucky Sisters review: comedy from Argentina

Sofía Morandi and Leticia Siciliani in (Un)lucky Sisters

(Un)lucky Sisters is a lighthearted romp of a story about finding your family and finding a secret cache of euros in your dead father’s apartment.

(Un)lucky Sisters introduces us to flat broke Jesi (Sofía Morandi) who is just starting a new job in a fast food place and flat broke kindergarten teaching assistant Angela (Leticia Siciliani). These two are sisters but have no life together or with their shared father.

When their father dies, they are both called to identify the body. They eye each other suspiciously, but neither of them can identify him. They don’t know him well enough to recognize him. His secretary shows up, identifies the body, and takes the two sisters to their father’s apartment.

The apartment is luxurious and gorgeous. They accidentally discover a sliding panel in the wall. Behind it are shelves bulging with stacks and stacks of 100 euro notes.

Was he a criminal? Are they in danger? Will someone come for all that money?

Their antics in getting to know each other, bonding as sisters, and figuring out whether they can safely use any of that huge pile of money make up the remainder of the movie.

The two women are terrific together. Their comedy timing is excellent. More important than the money is how they come to appreciate each other and form a lasting relationship as much needed family.

I watched it in Spanish, but I think you may be able to get it dubbed in English. The trailer is dubbed in English.

This light and bright comedy was directed by Fabiana Tiscornia. It’s simply lightweight fun, nothing serious. It’s streaming on Netflix.
