Catastrophe season 3 is headed for Amazon Prime on April 28. This hybrid American/British comedy stars Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, who also wrote the series. The series puts the main characters right in the middle of a relationship they had no preparation for.
Catastrophe is an R-rated comedy about a one-week stand between a Boston ad exec and a London schoolteacher that leads to an accidental pregnancy. When Rob moves to the UK to help figure things out, cultures clash and hormones flare as these two realize they don’t know the first thing about each other.
In season 2, Rob found a suspicious receipt. We see the misunderstanding that causes in the preview of season 3. In addition, Rob loses his job after being accused (wrongly) of sexual harassment.
Mark Bonnar and Ashley Jensen return as Chris and Fran. Season 3 marks the last acting performance of Carrie Fisher, who played Rob’s mom.
I was looking over my reviews of seasons 1 and 2 of this comedy series to refresh my memory on how I reacted to them. Here’s me, quoting me:
I don’t think Catastrophe is for everyone. It’s gross about sex while somehow managing to be tame and quirky about it. There’s something important and beautiful between Rob and Sharon, despite all their arguing. I don’t like either one of them very well, but I understand them both. More importantly, I agree with much of what they have to say about life and the world. Maybe I do like them. I definitely like how funny they are.

i understand why one might both like and dislike Rob and Sharon. i think that we all might have people in our lives for we care quite a bit but still face the same paradox. for what its worth, this is the show that convinced me that i should start checking out Amazon series, leading to many hours of enjoyment through Bosch and Transparent, Fleabag and One Mississippi, and many more. each character on this show seems real to me and at the same time, incredibly outsized; every action and reaction seems both real and exaggerated. i literally laughed out loud throughout the season one episodes. season two while funny, also took on a more serious tone, apropos i think of the situation in which they found themselves. i anxiously await season 3.

I loved this charming series and found it even more fascinatingly to watch, knowing it was written by the two actors. I will definitely watch season 3.
More and more people, especially women, are trying to get control over their material. This is a great example of the trend.
