Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries is a spin off from the delightful Australian series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. The new series premieres on Acorn TV on Monday, April 29, 2019.
The new series jumps forward from the 1920s to the 1960s. The series consists of four feature length episodes. Phryne’s niece Peregrine Fisher, played by Geraldine Hakewill, will take up the role of sleuth in Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries.
When Phryne Fisher goes missing in New Guinea, her niece inherits her aunt’s fortune. She decides to follow in her famous aunt’s footsteps to become a private detective. With the help of her aunt’s Adventureresses Club, she sets off to solve crimes.
It looks at if Geraldine Hakewill is quite capable of filling the shoes so delightfully occupied by Essie Davis in the original series. We haven’t lost Phryne or Essie Davis forever. She will soon be in a new feature film, Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears. It will air on Acorn TV as well.
Check out Geraldine Hakewill in all 3 seasons of the wonderful series Wanted.
Joel Jackson plays the smart, ambitious Detective James Steed. Catherine McClements will be Birdie, an ex-member of WWII Special Forces and head of The Adventuresses. Others in the cast include James Mason, Toby Truslove, Louisa Mignone, Greg Stone, Katie Robertson, Libby Tanner, and Zima Anderson.
Women directors include Fiona Banks and Lynn Hegarty. The series was created by Deborah Cox and Fiona Eagger. If you’ve never seen the original series that inspired this one, it’s available on many streaming services and is brilliant fun to watch.
The spin off looks to retain the style and glamour of the original. I’m looking forward to seeing it. How about you?

You can’t compare the two! I watch my beloved classy sexy miss phrinie then miss peregrine, she’s silly fun a cutie but flies by the seat of her pants and it works!
I enjoy them both. They’re delightful.
