Watch This: Trailer for The Little Drummer Girl

Alexander Skarsgård and Florence Pugh in The Little Drummer Girl

The Little Drummer Girl is a three night mini-series coming to AMC starting November 19. It’s based on the John le Carré novel.

Florence Pugh, Michael Shannon, and Alexander Skarsgård lead the cast in this suspense series.

Charlie (Pugh) is recruited by espionage agent Kurtz (Shannon) while she’s on vacation. She’s an aspiring actress who thinks her talent is wasted. Kurtz offers her a role. “We believe that you have talent that is being wasted,” Kurtz says. “If you decide to collaborate on this performance, you will never be wasted again.”

Here’s the plot summary: “A bomb explodes in the house of an Israeli attaché in West Germany. A team of Israelis wants to stop such frequent bombings, all brilliantly planned by an elusive Palestinian. The Israelis identify an eccentric actor of English origin and convert her into an Israeli agent. She and her case officers brilliantly win the confidence of the Palestinian network and she is accepted as their own.”

The Little Drummer Girl is a remake. The book was previously adapted into a 1984 film starring Diane Keaton as Charlie. It was then made into a TV mini-series, again starring Diane Keaton. If The Little Drummer Girl sounds familiar to you, there’s a good reason why.

This story seems able to attract an excellent cast, no matter what year it’s made. We’ll see if the new version is as good as it looks like it will be.
