The Eagle Huntress is a documentary about a 13 year old Mongolian girl who wants to break with 12 generations of family history and become a female eagle huntress.
Directed by Otto Bell and narrated by Daisy Ridley, The Eagle Huntress follows Aisholpan, a young girl who wants to prove herself as the equal of any man.
The plot summary includes this: “Through breathtaking aerial cinematography and intimate verite footage, the film captures her personal journey while also addressing universal themes like female empowerment, the natural world, coming of age and the onset of modernity.”
Based on the images in the trailer, I think the cinematographer, Simon Niblett, deserves a mention as well. In addition to being an inspiring story, the photography of the Mongolian steppe looks absolutely stunning.
The Eagle Huntress starts a run in the US on October 28. Watch for it.
