You’re Cordially Invited stars Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell in a too long comedy about two weddings that were accidentally booked in the same place at the same time.
In You’re Cordially Invited, Margot (Reese Witherspoon) is the sister of one bride, Neve (Meredith Hagner). She wants to give her sister the perfect wedding while ignoring all the rest of the family because she feels like an outsider in her own family.
Neve’s fella, Dixon (Jimmy Tatro), is a Chippendale dancer and everyone thinks he’s a loser.

Jim (Will Ferrell) is the father of the second bride, Jenni (Geraldine Viswanathan). He’s a widower who has raised Jenni alone. He wants to give his daughter the perfect wedding, even though he thinks she’s too young to get married and doesn’t like her fella, Oliver (Stony Blyden). Oliver is a DJ, which Jim doesn’t consider a real job. Loser.
When they two wedding parties arrive at the venue – an inn on an island – they discover the overbooking problem. They immediately become enemies who cooperate to find a compromise while underhandedly sabotaging each other’s weddings. They work out a way to share the space and the weddings are on!

If I listed the romcoms from the last year, something like Nobody Wants This would be at the top. You’re Cordially invited would be near the bottom of the list. The plot was a dud. Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell don’t really click as enemies or lovers. The best part of the whole movie was a Tik Tok style video during the credits of the two of them singing and dancing to “Islands in the Stream.”
Despite the fact that the cast was stuffed with well known faces, the acting felt forced. Leslie (Jack McBrayer) as the owner of the inn was good. The secondary characters like Fortune Feimster, comedian Leanne Morgan, the stalwart Celia Weston, and even a stunned looking Peyton Manning couldn’t pull the film up as much as they should have.
I know you love Reese Witherspoon and you love Will Ferrell. You’ll probably watch this because of that. That’s fine and dandy. But don’t expect a masterpiece. Look for it on Prime Video.

With an over possesive father who rared his protégé since the loss of her mother. He fails to acknowledge the young independant woman she has become. He can’t cut the emotional umbilical cord. His dual role forces him to overreact. He brings the tunes whereas the other party are more coventional but fun is contagious and they join in.

The family rift is aired & shared with a resolution.
I agree that Reece Witherspoon had no chemistry towards Ferrell and only indicated an interest when he mentioned being an airline CEO.
I thought the CEO bit was unbelievable. He never worked for even a minute, all he did was helicopter his kid.
