Hannah Gadsby: Nanette is a must watch brilliant hour from Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby. It’s strong, it’s powerful, it’s purposeful. It’s funny.
You must experience this hour for yourself. Hannah Gadsby talks about the reasons why she needs to quit comedy. Her basic premise is she needs to stop making her life experiences into self-deprecating jokes and instead tell her complete story. Of course, there’s much more to it. Her elaboration on that theme is what matters.
The hour is developed into a moving narrative about Hannah’s youth, life, education, and parents. It’s also about abusive power and how destructive and harmful the messages from the supposedly normal people in society are.
It’s silly of me as a reviewer to try to summarize Hannah’s message. It builds. The details add up. She’s a gifted storyteller. When she lets loose with her anger and pain, you know where it came from. All gay woman will get it. I got it. The men watching will get it, if they are in touch with their humanity at all.
You’ll get it and you’ll be better for it.
I urge you to jump on Netflix right now and watch Hannah Gadsby: Nanette. It’s important. It’s real. It’s the goddamn truth.
