A few words about series I’m watching and enjoying. I’m not finished with all the episodes, so I don’t want to do a full-fledged review. Take a look at My Life is Murder and Made in Heaven.
My Life is Murder
Lucy Lawless, Bernard Curry, and Ebony Vagulans star in My Life Is Murder. Filmed with love and Chamber of Commerce worthy devotion in Melbourne, Australia, the series is fast paced and very contemporary.
The heroine Alexa Crowe (Lawless) solves murders with a light touch. She was a homicide detective. Supposedly retired, she can’t resist the occasional case her former co-worker Kieran (Curry) brings her. Tech wiz Madison (Vagulans) is her helper when she’s working on a murder case.
Lucy Lawless is simply delightful in this. She’s quick and clever, she bakes bread and plays online video games in Italian, she grieves her dead husband, and she cracks a great one-liner. She’s a very likeable main character.
My Life is Murder is streaming on Acorn TV.
Made In Heaven
Indian series Made in Heaven stars Arjun Mathur and Sobhita Dhulipala as wedding planners. He’s gay, she’s in a rocky marriage, but they know how to throw a party!
The juxtaposition of very modern India that people’s lives now encompass with traditional Indian culture is startling. The food, costumes, and traditions around weddings are some of the remaining cultural ties to the past. The wedding planners deal with modern issues like finding venues and hiding Instagram photos from unsuspecting brides while still being expected to navigate arranged marriages, dowry transactions and virginity tests.
The characters are well-written. It’s an interesting look into an aspect of Indian life that you don’t see often. The series is streaming on Prime Video.
