Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is utterly delightful. It’s light and fun, full of humor, murder, satire, slapstick, and glamour. The cast is having as much fun with the material as the viewers. The original Knives Out was very good. This is even better.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is an homage to American pop culture. The mystery is solved like a game of Clue. There’s famous art all over the walls like the background in comic strip panels. Characters run back and forth like the Keystone Cops. Billionaires and tech companies are the butt of many jokes. The twists and reveals are clever. The guest stars who show up, say two lines, and vanish are numerous.
How Glass Onion Begins
Tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) sends puzzle boxes to the “disruptors” who were with him from the beginning of his success. Inside the puzzle is an invitation to his private Greek island to participate in a weekend where they will play a game to solve the mystery of his murder.
Here’s the guest list:
Claire (Kathryn Hahn) is now a governor with political ambition. Her biggest contributor is Miles Bron.
Lionel (Leslie Odom Jr.) is a scientist who attempts to make all of Miles Bron’s nutty ideas into reality.
Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson) is a former model getting rich off a fashion line backed by Miles Bron.
Duke (Dave Bautista) has a Twitch channel with tons of viewers. He talks about manist ideas. Guess who backed him starting his channel?
Andi Brand (Janelle Monáe) is the real brains behind the company – which is called Alpha – but was cut out of the deal by Miles and his lying shitball loyal disruptors.
The invited people brought along Peg (Jessica Henwick), Birdy Jay’s assistant.
Duke brought his girlfriend Whiskey (Madelyn Cline). Nobody brought Derol (Noah Segan), he was just there wandering in and out of the frame at odd moments.
Was the world’s greatest detective invited?
Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) also comes to the party on the island because – no, wait, I can’t tell you why he’s there. But he’s there and he solves the crimes even before some of them happen. He’s that good. He’s the male version of Agatha Christie.
Miles had a fun weekend with his favorite people planned, but none of it worked out for him. Lots of glass broke, the wrong people got dead, the dead people were not really dead, and the Mona Lisa smile will forever be a mystery. THIS MOVIE WAS SO MUCH FUN. I loved it. I watched it twice the first day it was on Netflix.
Famous names were dropped often. These people popped in for a minute and then never showed up again: Jackie Hoffman, Dallas Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Hugh Grant, Natasha Lyonne, Serena Williams, Yo-Yo Ma, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Angela Lansbury, and Stephen Sondheim.
Really, you must watch this film. Thank you to writer and director Rian Johnson for making it.

this was just such a fun movie. i am hoping this franchise is even more successful for Daniel Craig than Bond was.
I hope so too. Both have been super creative and solid good entertainment.
Loved this movie!! Such a great family film – from teens to adults – we all enjoyed it and had a lot to talk about afterward. (Don’t forget the tiny Angela Lansbury cameo at the very beginning! I think it was her last “role” before her death this year.)
Thanks for mentioning her. I forgot to include her name. I will fix that.
