Irish Wish, Lindsay Lohan leads this romcom

Lindsay Lohan in Irish Wish

Irish Wish begins with Maddie (Lindsay Lohan) longing for the author of a book she just edited. Okay, a book she mostly wrote but it’s the author’s name of the cover, not hers. Even so, she’s sure she’s in love with him.

The famous author

There’s an event for the release of the book. Paul (Alexander Vlahos), the famous author, is there. He acknowledges Maddie very briefly. Maddie’s mother (Jane Seymour) urges her to tell Paul about her feelings for him at this event.

Before Maddie can confess her feelings, Paul meets her two friends Heather (Ayesha Curry) and Emma (Elizabeth Tan). Paul and Emma fall in love. Well, that was a disappointment.

The remainder of Irish Wish is filmed in Ireland where the scenery steals the show most of the time. Paul and Emma plan a wedding at his family home in Ireland. Everyone is invited.

The photographer

On the way to the wedding, Maddie meets a photographer named James (Ed Speleers). He is obviously meant to be the one for Maddie, but it takes a bit of magic from Saint Brigid (Dawn Bradfield) for her to figure it out. When she meets Saint Brigid, she wishes she was marrying Paul. Suddenly she is marrying him and it isn’t exactly what she thought it would be. In fact, it feels like a really bad idea.

And James is there photographing the whole magic wedding.

Of course, it all works out in the end. The right people end up together. The best part was when Maddie told Paul she wasn’t going to write his next book for him without a co-writer credit. Go, Maddie!

Irish Wish was directed by Janeen Damian. She kept it light, bright, and beautiful. The Irish locations used were stunning chamber of commerce worthy photos of Ireland.

Make a wish

Lindsay Lohan has been a working actress for many years. It’s been a while since I saw her in anything, so I was still thinking of her as the wild and troubled child of her youth. She’s approaching 40 now and it was nice to see her in a role that was calmly normal and adult. Irish Wish isn’t a great movie, it’s an average romcom, but I did enjoy the grown up Lohan and the Irish countryside.

This one is streaming on Netflix.
