Mission: Cross review, a Korean action comedy

Hwang Jung-min and Yum Jung-ah in Mission: Cross

Mission: Cross is a South Korean comedy and action movie. It’s full of humor and lots of action plus a great car chase.

Mission: Cross features a woman police detective, Kang Mi-seon (Yum Jung-ah). She’s a great cop who tolerates her husband with ironic affection. He takes care of the house and does the cooking. She’s unimpressed with him but likes having him around.

She works with a group of cops who have romantic imaginations. They convince her that her husband is having an affair because they see him talking to a woman.

Park Kang-moo (Hwang Jung-min), the husband, has a secret. He’s a former agent and as tough as they come. The woman he was talking with was one of his former colleagues who asked him for help.

The woman Kang-moo helping turns out to be a master thief and is using him to pull off a big theft. Mi-seon is following him around because of the suspicion that he’s having an affair. She gets involved in the action and discovers that the husband she thought she knew has this big secret.

If this is starting to sound a bit like a Korean version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you would be exactly right. It’s more like the original Mr. and Mrs. Smith than the new series long version.

Mi-seon and Kang-moo are working together to stop crime by the third part of the movie. It’s all action with gun battles, explosions, car wrecks, and lots of dead bodies littering up the place.

When Mi-seon sees how heroic and brave Kang-moo is, she develops a new appreciation for her husband and their relationship is changed. I enjoyed watching the relationship between the married couple evolve. The chemistry between the two was excellent, especially as the movie moved along.

Overall, Mission: Cross was light and fun with good action scenes. It’s available on Netflix.
