My Life is Murder, a look at season 4 of this charmer

Lucy Lawless in My Life is Murder

My Life is Murder is back with season 4! Eight episodes of Alexa Crowe (Lucy Lawless) solving murders the police haven’t had any luck solving. There are plenty of bright costumes and scenic shots of Auckland, NZ to please your eyeballs.

The My Life is Murder team of Alexa Crowe and her tech savvy assistant Madison (Ebony Vagulans) is back together full time. Fans didn’t like it much in season 3 when Madison was absent from some of the episodes!

Alexa investigates all sorts of crimes: cat ladies and ballerinas and coconut oil businessmen who were killed in mysterious ways.

Alexa gets her assignments from Harry (Rawiri Jobe), a police officer who brings her unsolved cases to work. After she’s found the killer he steps in to make an arrest.

Madison does lots of footwork on her own, interviewing and getting into computers through not always legal means. Alexa doesn’t always follow the rules exactly either. This season Alexa gets everyone involved in her investigations. Her favorite restaurant owner Reuben (Joseph Naufahu) even goes undercover on some of the cases.

Alexa’s brother Will (Martin Henderson) doesn’t arrive until episode 6 to talk about their mother’s wedding – which Alexa missed. But that puts him back in the story so he can be with Alexa for the 2 episode season finale in which the person suspected of murder is Alexa herself! In the solving of this one, guest star Rodger Corser played an important role as someone from Alexa’s past. Running into him gave Lucy Lawless some meaty moments to act and meant some growth and change for Alexa’s character.

Everything about this series is warm and funny and Alexa always gets the killer. It’s one of my favorite things on television. For season 4, the only women directors were Sima Urale and Katie Wolfe.

The entire 4th season is available on Acorn TV now. Here’s the season trailer, in case you haven’t seen it yet.
