Intuition (La Corazonada) is a Spanish language police story from Argentina, now streaming on Netflix. If you are a fan of Argentinian cinema or any of the actors in the film, you will probably enjoy it.
For the rest of us, Intuition (La Corazonada) is not that compelling. The story involves a rookie detective, Pipa (Luisana Lopilato).
Pipa is assigned to work with the more experienced detective Juanez (Joaquín Furriel). She’s also asked to investigate Juanez at the same time he’s her partner. He’s a potential suspect in a murder.
Juanez is almost magically able to find killers and victims using his intuition. But, he has personal history that might tie him to the killing of a kid on a bike.
This overlong (nearly 2 hours) film starts with one crime, switches to another, then another. The story of how they get solved is full of holes and ridiculous plot twists that make the description “soapy” too mild a word. The action was too slow, there were long periods of silence. If the film had taken two hours with one crime and done it in detail with good police work I’m sure the actors would have turned in excellent performances.
In spite of the inadequate story they were given to tell, the actors did a fine job. Beautiful women and handsome men were all over the film, which should please the fans familiar with actors from Argentina. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing other productions with Luisana Lopilato.
As if in answer to my wish, this film is a prequel to the Netflix film Perdida, which also stars Luisana Lopilato as Pipa and comes from the same writer/director (Alejandro Montiel).
