Short Takes on Grace and Frankie, Surreal Estate and Home Before Dark

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin at an event for Grace and Frankie

The surprise release of the first four episodes of season 7 of Grace and Frankie was a big hit this week. We are several episodes into the SYFY series Surreal Estate and I’m loving it more every week. Home Before Dark wrapped up season 2. Let’s look at each one by one.

Grace and Frankie

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie had four episodes of season 7 in the can when they had to break for COVID. It looks like we won’t get to see the rest of the season until 2022. They decided to give us what they had in a welcome surprise from Netflix.

I don’t know if the situations are more comical than usual, but I found myself giggling often at the antics in these four episodes. Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) have been invaded by Robert (Martin Sheen) and Sol (Sam Waterston) because the Rise-Up toilet Frankie invented flooded their house.

Nick (Peter Gallagher) is in jail. Grace likes it that way. The adult children are all doing their bits. Episode 4 ended with a twist that was a good stopping place and left things dangling in anticipation of what will happen next.

Even a little bit of this series is better than nothing.

Surreal Estate

Tim Rozon in Surreal Estate

Nick Roman (Tim Rozon) is a realtor who manages to sell haunted houses by finding ways to expel the ghosts, monsters, and apparitions living in them. The series is horror-lite with a solid cast and interesting guest stars. There is character development, romance, and interesting action.

Sarah Levy is the second realtor in the firm. She’s new to the firm and just getting to know everyone. I’m especially enjoying the snarky assistant Zooey (Savannah Basley).

Tim Rozon and Savannah Basley worked together in Wynonna Earp. The series also brought in Melanie Scrofano from Wynonna Earp as a guest star in one episode and a director in another. Loyal #Earper fans do tend to follow their stars.

Home Before Dark

Kylie Rogers in Home Before Dark

Every one in the Lisko family, including Izzy (Kylie Rogers) got in on the fight against the polluting corporation hurting people in their small town.

The last two episodes brought the story full circle with a tie back to the events in season 1 that began the tale. It also took a look forward to a situation that could become season 3, which has not been confirmed yet.

I wish I could have binge watched this series, I would have enjoyed it more. But the last few episodes were brilliantly done and worth the wait.

Are you watching any of these series? Love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
