Loving tells about a love story that changed the world. Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga) married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their Virginia hometown.
In 1958, in Virginia, the couple were sent to prison for being married. Their interracial marriage violated the state’s anti-miscegenation laws.
Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court. In 1967, the Court affirmed the right to marry someone of a different race by ruling anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional.
The couple’s inspirational struggle for the right to love was written and directed by Jeff Nichols. Also featured in the film are Marton Csokas, Nick Kroll and Michael Shannon.
Loving received good reviews at Cannes. The preview in the trailer certainly looks good. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
The film will release in theaters in November 2016.
