Coming to theaters in August are 3 films featuring diverse stories about women that are worth your time and dollars. They are After the Wedding, The Nightingale, and The Kitchen.
After the Wedding
Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore, and Billy Crudup star in a mysterious drama about a woman who runs an orphanage in India and her relationship with a potential donor. I talked about the Danish version of this story way back in 2015. Susanne Bier, who directed the earlier version, was a writer on the Americanized 2019 version.
The Nightingale
Written and directed by Jennifer Kent, this film promises some scary moments as star Aisling Franciosi makes her way across Australia in 1825 in search of revenge. Aboriginal actor Baykali Ganambarr co-stars.
The Kitchen
Written and directed by Andrea Berloff, this is another film in the women can be as badass as men genre. Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss show their badassery with verve. This one gets bonus points for having Annabella Sciorra in the cast.
What looks good to you? Do you plan to see any of these in the theaters?
