Bad Sisters, season 2, runs the Garvey sisters ragged with one disaster after another. Some are tragic and unfixable. Some are accidental. Some are bad judgement. Mistakes are made by everyone. Most result in hilarious attempts to stay out of jail. There are minor spoilers ahead.
Bad Sisters begins on a happy note. Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) who managed to see her abusive husband put in his grave in season one, is in love with Ian Reilly (Owen McDonnell) and they have a beautiful wedding. Grace’s daughter Blanaid (Saise Quinn) seems to like him and the sisters all approve.
The people who do not approve are Grace’s overbearing neighbor Angelica (Fiona Shaw) and her single and lonely brother Roger (Michael Smiley). They think Ian is suspicious.
By episode two, Ian’s behavior is questionable and Grace is driving while very upset. She has an accident and dies. The sisters are devastated and looking for reasons. Money is missing.

Here’s a catch up on everyone. Eva (Sharon Horgan) gives way too much credit to Ian for being a good guy. Bibi (Sarah Greene) and her wife are trying to have a baby. Becka (Eve Hewson) is now sleeping with Joe (Peter Claffey), but Matthew (Daryl McCormack) can still cross her mind from time to time. Becka is definitely not trying to have a baby, but guess what? Ursula (Eva Birthistle) is divorced and her children seem to be with her ex.

Two cops from the Guard are always trying to figure out what happened to Grace’s husband, where the missing money Grace withdrew went, and what the heck the Garvey sisters are up to when somehow they are connected to every disaster at sea and beside the steep cliffs. Fergal Loftus (Barry Ward) is the boss, but on his way to retirement. Una Houlihan (Thaddea Graham) is the eager young cop who won’t let go and finds clues everywhere. Most of the clues are crazy and wrong, but she keeps looking for answers.
The sisters are terrified of the guard. The sisters often murder people without meaning to. Luckily not everyone they think they murdered actually dies. The sisters have many worried arguments about what to do about each disaster that comes along – and there are a lot of them. They think everything is Angelica’s fault. No, maybe it’s all Ian’s fault. No, maybe they are guilty for doing the wrong thing.
The series Clan this series is based on only had 10 episodes, like season one of Bad Sisters. Sharon Horgan wrote season 2 of Bad Sisters. She used vivid imagination to come up with some serious new problems for the sisters. After eight episodes of frantic worry and mistakes, she finally brings season 2 to a satisfying close. The sisters are not in jail and they have a beautiful ceremony for their beloved Grace by the sea with children, new babies, and all the extended family in attendance. It brings the family back by the water where the series began. It’s a lovely ending for the series and a wild ride getting there.
It’s a frantic, manic time in the lives of these sisters, but they love each other with a fierceness that is admirable. They try hard to get things back to a peaceful and serene life for everyone and they stick together no matter what happens. It’s one of the best sister relationship stories around. And it’s funny in a grim, dark way.
Women directors in season 2 were Dearbhla Walsh and Stacey Gregg. The series is streaming on Apple TV+
