I’ve had more than one person accost me to tell me I how ignorant about some superhero or other because I hadn’t read the comic book. I’m confessing that I haven’t read the Captain Marvel comic books either. But I’m here for whatever Brie Larson is bringing forth in March of 2019.
The trailer drops us smack in the 90s via a Blockbusters Video Store image (ah, the nostalgia). We see Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel step out into a world she thinks she recognizes, but she isn’t sure.
Samuel L. Jackson is an oh-so-young Nick Fury. Clark Gregg also shows up as a young Phil Coulson. What kind of anti-aging cream are these dudes buying? A few others you’ll get to see in Captain Marvel include Gemma Chan, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Annette Bening, and a zillion more mostly male characters.
This isn’t the origin story. The synopsis says only, “Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.” I wouldn’t mind a Captain Marvel origin story. How about that for the next flick, Marvel?
I love the costume! She’s actually fully clothed. She’s strong and heroic while covering her midriff. No wonder it took them so long to make a Captain Marvel movie. They couldn’t figure out how to make a superhero costume that covered a woman’s body.
Do you plan to watch this one ASAP when it rolls into the local multiplex?
