Luke Cage, season 2, hits Netflix with a blast on June 22. Enjoy the first full trailer for season 2.
Mike Colter as Luke Cage is back. This season he’s defending Harlem from an opponent with strength to match his own. Bushmaster, aka John McIver (Mustafa Shakir), will be giving Luke grief this season.
The trailer emphasizes action scenes, but season one of Luke Cage was intelligent, literary even. That looks to be the theme of the quieter scenes in season 2, with Luke wearing a sweat shirt emblazoned with the words African American College Alliance.
Some female characters are coming back to bring me joy. Rosario Dawson as the nurse Claire Temple will return. Simone Missick is back as Misty Knight with a robotic arm and quite an attitude. Luke would be lucky to be her sidekick, in my opinion. Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard wants to be the villainous queen of Harlem. Will that happen?
Ron Cephas Jones will again play Bobby Fish. Other characters we’ll see in season 2 include Bailey (Justin Swain) and Tilda (Gabrielle Dennis).
There are a couple of women directors in the new season of Luke Cage: Lucy Liu and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Two out of 13 episodes is barely a blip on the radar, but it’s there.
I thought season 1 of Luke Cage was one of the best Marvel offerings on Netflix, right after Jessica Jones. Are you planning to watch this series?
