Molly’s Game looks like a female-powered delight. I’m ready to see it right now, but it won’t be released until November 22. Jessica Chastain plays Molly Bloom. The story is based on a real person, who seems exceptionally kickass.
Here’s the synopsis: “Molly’s Game is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.”
The film is from writer and first-time director Aaron Sorkin, based on Molly Bloom’s memoirs. It doesn’t have many female characters, but judging by the trailer, Molly Bloom had enough incandescence to put a whole crowd of men in the shade. As she says in the trailer, “You don’t think much of me, but what if every single one of your ill-informed, unsophisticated opinions about me were wrong?”
Also starring are Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Chris O’Dowd, Michael Cera, Joe Keery, Rachel Skarsten, Graham Greene, Natalie Krill, and Brian d’Arcy James.
