The Light Between Oceans isn’t scheduled to release until Sept 2, 2016, but this trailer is so moving and beautiful I couldn’t resist mentioning it now.
The film stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander as a lighthouse keeper and his wife who live on a remote Australian island just after World War I.
A small boat containing a dead man and an infant wash up on their island. They decide to raise the little girl as their own, with devastating consequences to them several years later when they realize the child’s mother (Rachel Weisz) is alive and lives on the same island.
“She does not belong to us,” Tom tells his wife in the trailer. “We can’t keep her.”
The Light Between Oceans is based on M.L. Stedman’s bestselling novel of the same name. Derek Cianfrance is the director. Cianfrance also wrote the screenplay.
Filmed in Stanley, a quiet seaside town in north-west Tasmania, the film looks both beautiful and heartbreaking. Pack your tissues for this one.

What a terrific story line! Imaginative and original! The acting is powerful as well.
It looks good, doesn’t it? But a tearjerker.
