Top of the Lake: China Girl, a mystery series from Jane Campion and Gerard Lee will be released on Sundance TV in the U.S. this September. The day after each of the 6 episodes air on Sundance TV, they will be available on Hulu.
Elizabeth Moss returns as Australian police officer Robin Griffin. In season 2 of the series, she’s back in Australia. Season 1, from way back in 2013, was set in New Zealand.
In Top of the Lake: China Girl, two stories run in tandem. One involves a body that washes up on Bondi Beach. It is an Asian girl who worked in a brothel.
The other involves Robin’s daughter. She gave the child up for adoption. As much as she longs to meet her child, she dreads having to explain the story of her conception. She does meet the child and her adoptive mother. She also meets the daughter’s rather unsavory boyfriend, who thinks, “the destiny of man is to enslave women.” Yuk.
Gwendoline Christie, David Dencik, Alice Englert, Ewen Leslie, and Nicole Kidman also star in Top of the Lake: China Girl.
