American Honey is a young people’s movie. Nevertheless, it caught the attention of this elder. The film’s star, Sasha Lane, is Texas State college freshman without previous acting experience. According to the reviews from Cannes, she turns in an outstanding performance.
The film synopsis is, “A teenage girl with nothing to lose joins a traveling magazine sales crew, and gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending and young love as she criss-crosses the Midwest with a band of misfits.”
The UK’s Andrea Arnold wrote and directed American Honey. Along with Sasha Lane, the film also stars Shia LaBeouf, McCaul Lombardi, Arielle Holmes, Riley Keough, and several others.
Several reviewers who saw the film at Cannes commented on how beautiful the cinematography was and how luscious the midwest looked. There were also several comments about how long the film was (2 hr 42 min), even though most of the reviews were favorable. It won the Jury Prize at Cannes.
