Review: Queer Eye: We’re in Japan!

Tan France in Queer Eye: We're in Japan

Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! gives the Fab 5 a chance to take their act on the road and give it a cross cultural test. Spoiler – their effect on people is the same in Japan as in the U.S.

With the regular team of Tan France, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, and Jonathan Van Ness, Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! takes a familiar brand and exports it almost whole. It’s like past seasons, but it’s different, too.

There are some modifications for culture. Food choices, decor, confidence building – those things are modified but still do the same magic for people.

The Fab 5 have help from Kiko Mizuhara, a Japanese fashion celeb who serves as a guide to Tokyo and Japanese culture, and Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe.

The four episodes involve a gay man, a selfless hospice nurse, a married man who never has sex with his wife, and an artist who lacks self-esteem.

Well, they all lack self-esteem. What the Queer Eye team really do isn’t simply clean up your cluttered home and give you a new wardrobe. What they really do is build up your self-esteem, your confidence, and your willingness to be your best self.

These 5 queer men are always inspiring. The mere fact that they’ve overcome so much to be where they are makes getting to know them good for your soul.

I love every episode this team puts together. Doing it in Japan is no different.
